OMV, the leading oil and natural gas corporation in Central Europe, made the biggest natural gas discovery at the Viennese Basin for more than 20 years. The discovered possible reserves of approx. 3 billion m³ are more than triple of the annual gas production in Austria and equal about one half of the annual Austrian demand for natural gas.
The trove consists of two separate deposits in a depth of about 3,200 and 4,300 meters. Since 2006, geological and technical studies as well as extraction tests have been carried out, followed by further drillings to determine the exact position of deposits. In June 2008 the complete gas conveyor plant „Strasshof“ was ready for operation so that the exploitation of the gas field could be started. It may be assumed that the daily delivery rate will be within a range of 500,000 m³ to 1.000,000 m³, estimated lifetime of the field is said to be more than 20 years. OMV employs a staff of 780 persons and is to be considered the largest employer within this region.
Total costs of drilling works amount to EUR 7 million approx. To develop the deposits more than EUR 100 mil. were invested for additional drillings, pipelines and production equipment. The natural gas will be fed into the Austrian public power supply. Such an important plant simply has to contain also bst products.

For many years bst has been supplying its modular transit systems to OMV gas stations. That bst cable transits are pressure- and gastight is equally important as the internationally tested fire-resistance. To the new gas conveyor plant Strasshof about 250 frame windows of type SBS-12 have been delivered; the assembly was done by the experienced bst working crew. The buyer values the quality of bst products and especially the possibility to get fire resistance class S90 with a single sealing by using the SBS system. The one and only system of this kind.
